His & Hers Bedside Lamps

For this project I started with a gang of sad, ugly lamp shades. These were purchased from Goodwill for $1-$2. I decided to work on the little ones first.

I cut three long strips from coffee sacks (about 1.5 x the diameter of the shade) for the "girly shade." I sewed large stitches with twine and pulled the twine at the end of the strip before tying to create the ruffled look. The bottom ruffle I sewed right down the middle; for the other ruffles I sewed at the top of the strip.

I arranged the ruffles and secured them with a lot of strategically placed hot glue. I then added some vintage lace to the "girly lamp."

For the "manly lamp" I just glued a large piece of coffee sack on, keeping the braided edge of the piece for the bottom. There is one seam line in the back of this shade. I like how they turned out, and I think they'll look great in our bedroom! I plan to recover the large shades to sell if I have enough coffee sack material left.

Sew Close!

Our first Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market is sewww close! September 17th is approaching quickly. When I can squeeze in time, I've been working on tagging items I already have as well as making items I can sell. Here are some recent sewing projects:

Girly Owl Pillow, Pink & Teal Coffee Sack Pillows

And a whole bunch of onesies!

Coffee Sack Redo

I have a stack of cool coffee bags waiting to be re-purposed, so I decided to make one into a tote bag/purse.

First I cut the sack into the size I wanted and cut an old belt to use for the strap.

I stitched around the edges with mustard yellow yarn and stitched an orange heart on the flap.

Here is the finished product, front and back.

Choosing A Name

Deciding on a name wasn't too hard for us. We kept a chalkboard list on the armoire. Once we found out we were having a girl we both knew she would be an Ivy. It's the only girl's name we came up with that we both really liked. A middle name was a bit harder to choose, but we agreed on Adele. Having a name we can call her makes it feel more real. We cannot wait to meet our little Ivy Adele!

Hi

We've created this blog to better keep in touch with family and friends that live far away. With our first baby girl on the way, we thought this would be a great place to post pictures of our growing family and day-to-day adventures! Love, Adam & Monique
